Basashi (Horse Sashimi)

While some of the best Basashi (Horse Sashimi) is known to come from Kumamoto, in the south of Japan, this is a delicacy that can be found at izakayas all over the country, from Kyushu to Hokkaido. As the name suggests, it is indeed raw horse! The taste is somewhere between carpaccio and salami. Delicious with grated ginger and dipped in soy.
