Almonds on ice

Submitted by lsr
Street vendor, near Sade Kahve
Yahya Kemal Caddesi No. 20/A, Rumelihisarı, Istanbul

These iced white almonds, or buzlu badem, are a popular street food in Turkey, where it's acceptable for vendors to walk through restaurants--or at least outdoor dining areas, as one seller did at brunch spot Sade Kahve. Served on ice, the almond skins peel off easily; they're addictively delicious, even if you're not drinking raki! (It is a traditional drinking snack). One (pretty large) serving goes for 10 TL.
