What: Frozen custard—ice cream’s silkier, creamier cousin, thanks to the inclusion of eggs—is not indigenous here, but one place in particular has become such a summertime Buffalo tradition that it warrants inclusion on our list.
Where: Local chain Anderson’s Frozen Custard (multiple locations including 2235 Sheridan Dr., map) has been doing custard for some 65 years. It uses milk from area farms, dispenses its namesake treat out of soft-serve machines, and offers a small handful of flavors that varies by branch, including vanilla, chocolate, pistachio, butter rum, and black raspberry.
When: Daily, 11am-10:30pm or 11pm (depends on location and season)
Order: We’re fans of the classic, creamy vanilla (small cone for $2.38). We also heard the soft-serve-style ices are great here; sometimes they carry a loganberry flavor. And on another note, if you’re craving a quick sandwich, try Anderson’s popular beef on weck ($4.49).
