My old college roommate and I took a ride to Olean to watch St. Bonaventure University play the University of Massachusetts in the Division 1 basketball game. For me it was a return to this beautiful area in Western NY after nearly 48 years. After the "Bonnies" won an exciting game, we went to this restaurant. We both ordered a local favorite: beef on wick, a sandwich of slow-roasted roast beef on a salty kummelwick roll covered with caraway seeds, with a side dish of homemade potato salad. As a student at St. Bonaventure, when beef on wick was served in the university dining hall, word spread like wildfire throughout the campus. It was a hit back then and remains one 48 years later.
