Uighur food

Submitted by louis

1141 Brighton Beach Ave. Brooklyn, NY

Brighton Beach is heavily Russian, but this restaurant is 1 of the few to specialize in Uighur (& Uzbek) food (Uighurs are a Turkic ethnic minority group living mostly in Xinjiang, China, near the border with the former Soviet Union; hence the Russian connection). Pictured is the geiro lagman, spicy hand-pulled noodles with lamb & peppers, and the lamb pilaf; we also loved the empanada-like lamb samsa. (The lamb reflects the Muslim influence of the Uighurs.) Everything was fantastic & we only wished we could've tried more! Definitely a must in this neighborhood.
