What: This is a first for us: a “cook your catch” Chinese restaurant that offers you a choice of 10 preparations for your locally caught (or purchased) fish, from sautéed with scallion and ginger or sesame sauce to fried up General Tso’s style. It’s a brilliant way to save a small fortune on a delicious fish dinner in this town.
Where: You’ll find Wok n’ Roll (631-668-6688; 716 Main St.) in a little strip-mall plaza downtown, looking just like your average suburban Chinese restaurant, with the noted exception of the “you hook ’em, we cook ’em” sign on the wall.
When: Daily, noon-10:30pm (off-season: noon-9:30pm and closed Tues)
Order: Choose the style or styles—depending on how much fish you bring, you can do multiple styles ($10 for first pound of fish, $4/pound thereafter)—that speak to you, but we highly recommend the General Tso’s preparation if you have a meaty fish (pictured). It’s sweet-and-spicy deep-fried heaven.
Good to know: No fisherman in your crowd? Fake it by hitting up a local market, like Gosman’s Fish Market (500 West Lake Dr., map).
