Chocolate santafereño

A mug of chocolate santafereño with toast from La Puerta Falsa in Bogota, Colombia.

What: A local favorite of rich hot chocolate served with a hunk of white cheese, meant to be dunked into the mug. If you like chocolate and cheese—and who doesn’t?—you will approve.

Where: It’s available at many cafes and restaurants, but an atmospheric spot to try it is La Candelaria’s quaint two-story La Puerta Falsa (Calle 11 no. 6-50), Bogotá’s oldest operating restaurant.

When: Mon-Sat, 7am-11pm

Order: Chocolate santafereño, served here with buttered bread and a roll—making it perfect for breakfast. Combine it with a moist tamal and some of their milk candies to go.

Good to know: Combine your visit to the Botero museum with La Puerta Falsa; they’re right down the street from each other.

Alternatively: Pasteleria Florida (Carrera 7 No. 21-46; map) is another historic cafe serving this and other Colombian goodies.
